Top 10 Blogging Tips to Boost Your Brand

By Lindsay Woodward

Whether you’re thinking about launching a brand new blog, or you want to breathe new life into your existing one, these 10 blogging tips will help you create content that connects, engages and grows your audience.

As Marketing Director of Lindsay Woodward Marketing, I’ve helped countless businesses build strong online presences, and these are the key insights I’ve gathered along the way.

1. Start with Clear Purpose

Before you write a single word, ask yourself: Why am I blogging? Without a clear goal, your efforts can become scattered and ineffective. Whether it’s building brand awareness, educating your audience or driving sales, knowing your purpose keeps your blog focused and purposeful.

2. Focus on Creativity, Not Just SEO

SEO is important, but it shouldn’t be the driving force behind your blog. Instead, prioritise crafting creative, valuable content that speaks directly to your audience. When your readers find your blog genuinely interesting and helpful, SEO will naturally follow as a bonus.

3. Pick a Theme

Blogs with a clear, consistent theme attract loyal readers. A random collection of posts might get some clicks, but a focused approach helps your audience understand what you offer and why they should keep coming back.

4. Know Your Audience

Who are you writing for? Pinpointing your target readers helps tailor your content to their needs, interests and challenges. The more precise your focus, the stronger your connection will be.

5. Plan Your Content in Advance

Jumping into blogging without a plan can lead to stress and inconsistency. Aim to map out your posts at least three to six months ahead. This gives you time to develop ideas and batch write content, and it will ensure you avoid those dreaded blank page moments.

6. Choose a Realistic Posting Schedule

Consistency beats frequency. Instead of overwhelming your audience (and yourself) with daily posts, aim for quality content once or twice a month. Your readers will appreciate well thought out posts far more than rushed, frequent ones.

7. Keep It Concise and Engaging

Around 600 words is a sweet spot. This is long enough to provide value but short enough to keep attention. Make every word count by staying clear, focused and engaging throughout your post.

8. Format for Easy Reading

Good formatting makes your blog inviting. Use subheadings to break up text, keep paragraphs short, and avoid awkward spacing. A clear, polished layout helps your readers absorb your message effortlessly.

9. Proofread

Spelling or grammar mistakes can quickly undermine your credibility. Always double check your work or ask someone else to proofread it. Polished posts reflect professionalism and care.

10. Host Your Blog on Your Website

Having your blog live on your own site maximises SEO benefits and keeps your audience connected with your full brand story. Plus, tools like Google Analytics let you track what’s working, meaning you can adjust your strategy accordingly.
